Professional Teeth Whitening is the Easiest and Quickest Way to Look Younger

Professional whitening is easy — you just relax in the chair and let Dr. Nathan Klabunde and his team at Northwoods Dental Group in Columbus, Ohio, do all the work.

Even if you have sensitive teeth, you can safely come in for teeth whitening because Dr. Klabunde uses Zoom!® in-office professional teeth whitening, a top-of-the-line professional teeth whitening system.

Why stained teeth make you look older

Stained teeth make you look older because teeth naturally become darker and more discolored as you age. Over the years, the enamel covering your teeth thins out. As that happens, the layer below, called dentin, becomes more visible. Since dentin is yellow, its yellowish hue shows through thinning enamel.

Your enamel also becomes more porous as you get older. This makes it easier for pigments from foods and beverages to attach to the tooth surface. As a result, your teeth stain more quickly than in younger years.

Benefits of professional teeth whitening

The teeth whitening products available at your local pharmacy may do a satisfactory job if your teeth are mildly stained, but keep this in mind: Commercial products have a limited effect because their bleaching agents are weaker than professional products.

We can use the same active ingredient at a much higher concentration here in the office because we protect your tongue, mouth, and gums from hydrogen peroxide.

There are two other significant differences between professional teeth whitening and at-home bleaching: the time it takes and the results.

Most commercial whitening strips and gels are applied twice daily for 14 days. Many whitening rinses must be used regularly for three months. What results will you get for all that time, effort, and money spent on products? In two to 12 weeks (depending on the product you use), your teeth will be one or two shades lighter. Zoom! In-office whitening can lighten your teeth by up to eight shades during just one visit.

What to expect at an in-office teeth whitening session

When you come in for teeth whitening, the first thing we do is assess the current shade of your teeth and determine precisely how many shades lighter you’d like to go for your new smile. Next,

we apply a protective gel to your gums to keep them from developing any irritation during your treatment.

Step three: we gently brush the Zoom! bleaching gel onto your teeth. Then, a special blue LED light is turned on to activate the whitening gel. After no more than 60 minutes, your smile is transformed – up to eight shades whiter. Now that’s something to smile about!
